Commemorating WW II Operation BERLIN - The Evacuation from Arnhem

We were pleased to recently receive a report from Bill McVean on his activities during the Battle of Arnhem Commemorations in September 2015. Bill McVean is a keen student of the WW II Arnhem battle and the part played by 23rd Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers (RCE) in the 25/26 September 1944 evacuation of Allied paratroops at night and under heavy fire after Operation MARKET GARDEN.

Commander Canadian Army Change of Command Ceremony to take place on Parliament Hill

Media are invited to attend the change of command ceremony for the Canadian Army on July 14. Lieutenant-General Paul Wynnyk will assume command of the Canadian Army from Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse in a Parliament Hill ceremony presided over by the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Jonathan Vance.

Where Mitchell Won his Victoria Cross

Seizing on a recent opportunity during a visit to Europe in May 2016, Major-General Paul Wynnyk and Lieutenant-Colonel Erik Crane plus some adventurous friends had a chance to find and visit a site of significance to the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers. The site in question is where Lieutenant-Colonel (then Captain) Coulson Norman Mitchell VC, MC won the only Victoria Cross awarded to a Royal Canadian Engineer.
