Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 escalating the war that started 2014. Tens of thousands on both sides have been killed and Russian forces have been accused of mass civilian casualties and mistreating captured Ukrainian soldiers. More than eight million Ukrainians have been forced to flee country causing Europe's largest refugee crisis since the end of the Second World War.
Applications for this year's bursary must be received by 31 August 2023.

From the Colonel Commandant in Sicily:
On 26 July, the Colonel Commandant, MGen Daniel Benjamin, unveiled a monument to the efforts of the Royal Canadian Engineers during Operation HUSKY. During the night of 21 / 22 July 1943, the 3rd Field Company, in support of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade's attack on the hilltop town of Leonforte, built the first Bailey Bridge of the war under fire and ensured Canadian success in taking the town.
On this day, 80 years ago, Canadian Sappers were among those leading the assault on Sicily at Pachino Beach. Over the next four weeks, the 1st Canadian Infantry Division supported by the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade would fight through the Sicilian Hills in some of the hardest fighting of the Second World War.
