On 2 September 2006, the Canadian Army launched what is considered to be one of the most deadly operations in recent military history. NATO's Operation MEDUSA aimed to reclaim the Pashmal/Panjawyi district of Afghanistan from the Taliban. The enemy had been massing in the region with the express purpose of launching a major assault against the city of Kandahar.

Sharm El Sheik, Egypt – The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) employed the drafting and surveying team from 1 Engineer Support Unit (1ESU) across several of their site locations in the Sinai Peninsula.
19 Aug 2019 marked the handover of the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers Chief Warrant Officer from CWO JDS Gaudreau to CWO JRD Lapointe.

Retired Col. Chris Lythgo, CD was confirmed National Chair during the Commissionaires’ Annual General Meeting held today in Winnipeg. He replaces retired Vice-Admiral Duncan (Dusty) Miller, CMM MSC CD RCN whose three-year term had concluded.
An annual military national competition between the various regions took place in Ottawa again this year. Military Nationals for triathlon was hosted by Triathlon Gatineau on 6 Jul 19. Sixteen members from each region came to the NCR to compete against their previous times as well as other friends and colleagues. This year was no different. Hot weather meant a non-wetsuit legal race. Both Sprint and Olympic distance races took place in 40 and under and master’s divisions for both Male and Females of the CAF.
The Italian Campaign was often called “The Engineers War” because military success was so dependent on overcoming the numerous natural and artificial obstacles.
The Government of Canada is planning an overseas commemorative program to mark the 75th anniversary of the Italian Campaign. Around 26 November 2019, the approved delegates will travel to the Canadian departure city to join the delegation before departing for Italy.
