Sapper Story - MCpl Alexis Russelo Awarded King's Coronation Medal

Master Corporal (MCpl) Alexis Russelo has been honoured with the prestigious King's Coronation Medal, recognizing her exceptional service and dedication to the Canadian Armed Forces. MCpl Russelo has consistently demonstrated outstanding mentorship, guidance, and leadership throughout her military career.

Born in London, Ontario, MCpl Russelo’s family raised her to be extremely patriotic and to have a deep love for Canada and its people. She joined the Forces in 2015 as a combat engineer due to her interest in explosives. After completing her DP 1 course in 2016, she was posted to the 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. Her first assignment was a deployment on Operation Lentus, where she played a crucial role in fighting the BC wildfires in 2017. Her exemplary performance during this operation led to her selection for deployment on Operation Reassurance in Latvia in 2019.

MCpl Russelo's strong organizational skills and professionalism allowed her to excel in various administrative roles, often performing duties above her rank. She was employed as the Regimental Intelligence NCO after completing her Tactical Intelligence Operator course, where she conducted weekly briefs to the CO and her regiment to educate them on the Ukraine/Russia conflict. Her dedication and competence were further recognized when she was selected for another deployment on Operation Reassurance, this time in Romania, where she served as the Section Commander for Airfield Security.

Upon returning from her deployment, MCpl Russelo volunteered for another Operation Lentus mission, battling the Eagle Complex Wildfire to support her community. She considers this the highlight of her career because it involved long, rigorous days that challenged her as a leader. Her commitment to service and continuous improvement led to her posting to the 1 Service Battalion (1 Svc Bn) as a Training NCO. Additionally, she volunteered to instruct on a Basic Land Training (BLT) course with 1 Svc Bn and the Primary Leadership Course with the 3 Canadian Division Training Centre, further honing her soldiering skills.

MCpl Russelo's aspiration to expand her knowledge and serve her community has driven her to pursue a career in police service. She plans to leverage her military experience and skills to continue making a positive impact.

MCpl Russelo is a member of the Defence Women’s Advisory Group, where she provides resources for junior members in her regiment. She donates toys during Christmas for the less fortunate and loves to play the violin, finding that music helps her relax. Her most significant achievement is the friends she has made, as she cares deeply about the people around her and always tries to put her best effort into everything she does.

Congratulations to MCpl Alexis Russelo on receiving the King's Coronation Medal. Her dedication and leadership are a shining example for all and we are proud of your achievements.
