May 17, 1963

On this date in 1963, Sergeant Major Walter Leja of 3rd Field Engineer Regiment, Montreal, was maimed while defusing a mailbox bomb in Montreal, making him the first victim of the FLQ's (Front de Liberation du Quebec) ongoing terrorist campaign.
