MCpl John William Maxwell, CD (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal John William Maxwell, CD (Ret’d), peacefully in Dartmouth NS on 8 August 2022.

Born and raised in Sydney NS, John was a member of the  Sea Cadets in his youth. He started his lengthy 45-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces when he joined the Reserves as a Field Engineer with 45^th Field Engineer Squadron in Sydney. John transferred to the Regular Forces and served with the Canadian Military Engineers in locations that included 22 Field Squadron in Gagetown NB, where he worked on Northern Airfield Construction at Pond Inlet. He also served in 4 Combat Engineer Regiment in Lahr Germany before remustering to the Royal Canadian Air Force.where he pursued a second career as a Safety Systems Technician.

There will be no service by John’s request. Visitation to celebrate John’s life will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd, Whitney Pier on 3 September 2022, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Francis Room. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
