MWO Maris Indulis Deics, CD (Ret’d)
We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Maris Indulis Deics, CD (Ret’d), peacefully on 26 February 2022 at Victoria Hospital in London, ON at the age of 82 years.
Maris joined the Royal Canadian Engineers when he was 17 and dedicated 35 years to serving his country. He completed his Sapper training at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC in 1958 and his first posting was a four-year tour with 3 Field Squadron in Chilliwack. During this tour, qualified as Carpenter (Structures Technician). From Chilliwack, Maris was posted to Winnipeg for two years (1964-66) before returning to Chilliwack. Following this tour, he was posted back to Winnipeg for two years and then returned to Chilliwack for what was to be a short posting of only one year before he returned to Winnipeg again. Here he worked in soils testing and Maris completed a tour in Egypt with the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF). When Maris returned to Canada, he joined the Base Construction Engineering Section at CFB Petawawa for five years. During this posting, he was promoted to Master Warrant Officer before being posted to CFB London for four years. A six-year posting to CFB Rockliffe followed during which time he deployed to Canadian Forces Station Alert NU. Maris retired in Ottawa in 1992 and then worked for the City of Ottawa for more than 10 years.
Maris could always be found cheering on his favourite hockey team, watching the Y&R and at his latest favourite pastime of making pottery.
